Soldiers’ Angels gives smiles to the troops

I recently discovered Soldiers’ Angels when looking for a way to get books to our military servicemen and women overseas.

“Soldiers’ Angels is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit with hundreds of thousands of volunteers providing aid and comfort to the men and women of the United States Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, veterans and their families.”

Books for the Troops – Angel Beth says, “The preference for paperbacks vs. e-books depends on the living situation of the deployed person. Those on small bases with limited electricity, resources, and the Internet would probably prefer paperback books. In better areas, they might prefer e-books.”

Paperbacks and E-books – Soldiers’ Angels are happy to accept paperbacks or e-book coupons (as well as magazines). Click here for more information.

Adopt a Soldier – You can “adopt” a soldier yourself or get a group together with family members, the office, or your church (or online writers’ groups!). You can provide items for active duty, veterans undergoing care in the VA system, and for the wounded heroes in hospitals around the world.

And it’s not just books or magazines – there are many ways to get involved or contribute.

So many ways to contribute – See the Teams and Projects tab.

Don’t know what to donate?Donating items.

Soldiers’ Angels is also on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

“A pillow for thee will I bring, stuffed with down of angel’s wing.” ~Richard Crashaw

Other ways to get books to the troops – Operation Paperback, Books for Soldiers, and Ebooks for Troops. I’ll post more information on these organizations later this week.
