About Main Street Books and owner Val Stadick

Main Street Books opened on March 27, 2006, by owner Val Stadick. Val was born in Minot, North Dakota and moved to California in 1960 when she was just one year old. She moved back to North Dakota about 20 years ago. Val logo[1]graduated from Minot State University in 1999 with a B.A. in English and minor in Business Administration. She wrote grants and worked as coordinator for ReStore for five years prior to opening the bookstore.

Val has three kids and six grandchildren. She likes to run, she reads (of course!), and wishes to someday write.

Main Street Books is a local, independent bookseller that specializes in new and used books and a wonderful collection of children’s educational, classic, and fun toys.

Main Street Books is offering their first-ever book clubs for kids this summer and has at least one monthly themed children’s event. Also during  the summer, they have two children’s story times on Fridays at 10 am and 11 am.

Sundays are BOGO used books, and they offer a frequent buyer program on books. Main Street Books tracks your books purchased, and when you reach ten, you get a credit for 10% of what you spent – it’s like getting a free book. In July, they sponsor a month-long “Where’s Waldo Scavenger Hunt” in which 25 other local businesses participate. FUN FUN FUN!

Years ago, the store housed Jay’s Men’s Store, around the 60s and 70s. After that it was Mr. Wish Gift Shop. The building was renovated right before Val and Main Street Books moved in. Renovations brought back the original hardwood floors and the original brick walls were exposed.
